America at the Crossroads
by William L. NowellBlessed is the nation whose God is the Lord (Psalm 33:12), but "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil." (Isaiah 5:20)
What is the Future of America?
What happened to the United States of America? Today America is anything but united. Instead our society has fractured into countless warring tribes. Cities burn while anarchists chant “death to America.” Radical politicians prefer the Communist Manifesto over the Constitution. Dr. Martin Luther King's dream has turned into a nightmare where the color of one's skin is all the matters. We are living in a day when all that is evil is celebrated as good, and all that is good is denigrated as evil. America is on the verge of imploding and there is only one thing we can do to prevent it. We must return to God in prayer and repentance.
A Nineveh Moment
The Book of Jonah tells us that the word of the Lord came to Jonah saying, “Get up, go to Nineveh, the great city, and cry out against it, because their wickedness has come up before Me.” Nineveh was the most important city in ancient Assyria, the rising world power of Jonah's day. However, Jonah was reluctant, to say the least, about preaching in Nineveh. If it were left to him, Nineveh would go the way of Sodom and Gomorrah. But God had a different plan and eventually Jonah went to Nineveh and preached the word of the Lord saying, “In forty days' time, Nineveh will be overthrown!” (Jonah 1:2, 3:4)
Upon hearing the message of judgment, everyone from the King to the lowliest of servants repented of their wickedness. “When God saw what they did and how they turned from their evil ways, he relented and did not bring on them the destruction He had threatened.” (Jonah 3:10) God's response is not unexpected in light of Jeremiah 18:8 which tells us that “If that nation against which I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to do to it.” And we also know that God is slow to anger, has great love, and He would rather forgive than send judgment. (Joel 2:13) God forgave the people of Nineveh and they prospered; becoming the capital of the vast Assyrian Empire within 50 years.
Is America currently facing a Nineveh moment? Let's compare Nineveh to America. First, we know the sins of Nineveh were so egregious that God intended to destroy the city. Now examine the extensive list of sins that warrant the wrath of God, as listed in Romans 1:18-32. What's abundantly clear is that America is guilty of each and every ungodly act in the book of Romans. Thus, I am confident that in terms of wickedness, America has Nineveh beat, hands down, no competition. So why would God not judge America?
Second, God sent His prophet Jonah to warn Nineveh of its impending destruction. Similarly, God sent a prophetic warning of judgment to America through Rabbi Jonathan Cahn. In his groundbreaking book The Harbinger, Rabbi Cahn lays out nine warning signs that appeared in Israel prior to its destruction. Amazingly, the exact same harbingers of destruction have appeared on American soil. The Harbinger is America's wake-up call; a call to repentance. But instead of turning to God in repentance, America's plunge into moral depravity has only escalated. Yet, God in His mercy has given us a window of opportunity to return to Him. He has graciously given us President Trump to stand in the gap between Marxism/communism and American liberty. Nevertheless, we have but a limited time to return to righteousness. "Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts." (Malachi 3:7)
Return to God
2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” In its original context “My people” were ethnic Israel. However, as born again Christ-followers, we are graphed into the household of Israel. And so, by extension 2 Chronicles 7:14 includes the Christian church. If we want to see America restored, then it is imperative that we, the church, repent of our sins. Too often preachers, teachers, and Christians in general read 2 Chronicles 7:14 as “If My people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray, then God will...heal their land.” They place emphases on prayer, completely skip over the next two conditions, but still expect God to “hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land.”
God gave us, His people, four conditions that we must satisfy before we can expect a favorable response. There are no shortcuts. We must first humble ourselves by submitting to God's authority and by confessing both personal and national sins. Next, we must pray. Our prayers ought to include the command of 1 Timothy 2:2 to “Pray for kings (i.e. the President) and for everyone who has authority over us, so that we may live quiet and peaceful lives as we worship and honor God.” Third, we are to continually seek His face. God wants to fellowship with His people. He wants us to know Him for who He is; not only for what He can do for us. Lastly, we must repent of our wicked ways. Yes, the church must repent!
To see our need for repentance, all we need to do is compare our selves to the seven churches in the book of Revelation. Only two of the seven churches received no words of rebuke; the persecuted church at Smyrna and the faithful church at Philadelphia. But to four of the remaining five churches, after acknowledging their good works, Yeshua (Jesus) pointed out their sins and told them to repent or else! Even worse, to the church at Laodicea, He had nothing good to say; but only words of rebuke. (See Revelation 2:1-3:22)
Moreover, Yeshua (Jesus) found these five churches guilty of forsaking their first love, compromising with the world, tolerating immorality, having a superficial faith, and of being lukewarm (spiritually useless). No doubt, the flaws, faults, and shortcomings (i.e. sins) of these five churches are all commonplace in the American church. Surely, we must repent or else!
But, let's not be overly critical. Though the churches were fraught with many failings, Yeshua (Jesus) also found admirable qualities in six of the seven churches. Likewise, the church in America has its praiseworthy qualities as well. Nonetheless, it is not wise to focus only on the good and overlook the bad. To do so is to overlook the need for repentance. But without repentance, we have no reason to expect God to hear our prayers and to “heal our land.” Without repentance we can only expect judgment. But what would judgment look like for America?
When Judgment Comes
Since the warnings we received exactly parallel those of ancient Israel, it's reasonable to assume our judgment will parallel that of Israel. But Israel was conquered by the Assyrians. This implies that America will fall to a Middle Eastern nation or coalition of nations. The thought of a Middle Eastern coalition of nations defeating the United States of America is laughable. After all, we are the world's leading superpower. Our military might is indeed formidable. No mere Middle Eastern nation would stand a chance against us. We are safe, and we are secure. Or so it seems. I can't help but think of the passage in 1 Thessalonians 5:3, “While people are saying, "There is peace and security," then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.” Perhaps 9/11 was just a warning shot; with something far more deadly on the horizon. Perhaps we are not as safe and secure as we think we are.
America's "Multi-headed Dragon"
If God's judgment falls on America, it will likely come in the form of an attack by foreign enemies. But there is another possibility to consider; that being America's internal decay. America is infected with a deadly parasite, much like the “seven-headed dragon” of Revelation 12:3-12. This passage describes Satan as a seven-headed dragon filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.
The most pernicious head of America's multi-headed dragon is the public education system. From kindergarten to college, students are indoctrinated rather than educated; especially in the universities. Their brainwashed graduates then feed into the other heads of the dragon:
- The Democratic (socialist) Party is rabidly anti-American
- The mainstream “news” media are purveyors of leftist propaganda
- Major social media platforms amplify mainstream propaganda
- The entertainment industry normalizes leftist ideology; Hollywood in particular, and increasingly major league sports
- Domestic terrorists wreak havoc across America. Violent mobs of BLM and ANTIFA anarchists rampage through the streets burning, looting, and murdering all the while chanting “death to America.”
If there's any doubt that America's multi-headed dragon is Satanic, all one has to do is observe the practices of BLM's leadership. Black Lives Matter (BLM) summons spirits of the dead to work through them. And whether they know it or not, they're not working with the dead, instead they are in league with demons.
Numerous sources confirm the occult practices of BLM
“There shall not be found among you anyone who... calls up the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord.” (Deuteronomy 18:10-12)
America is experiencing spiritual warfare like never before. Our adversaries in BLM rely on demonic spirits to empower them in advancing their destructive agenda. We are quite literally at war with the powers of hell.
Averting Disaster
America is racing at breakneck speed to the judgment of God. But it is not yet too late to change direction and avoid judgment. In His grace and in His mercy, God has given us a window of time to return to Him. Now is the time to turn the nation back to God; this may be our last opportunity.
Franklin Graham, son of the late Evangelist Billy Graham, and Messianic Rabbi Jonathan Cahn both say God led them separately to call for gatherings on the National Mall, Saturday September 26, 2020. Our nation is in dire need of prayer. It is up to the people of God to lift up this nation in prayer before it's too late. Always remember, the prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. (James 5:16) For more details, visit Washington Prayer March 2020.
Also on September 26, 2020, Jonathan Cahn is hosting The Return event. The Return is a call to personal and national repentance; a change of heart and mind ultimately leading to a change in lifestyle. For God to hear our prayer and act upon it by healing our land there must be repentance. For more details, visit The Return.
